JUNE 2017

The Very First We moved into our first home in the fall so I had no idea what color the five peonies bushes that came with the house were going to be - the suspense! So when their buds started to emerge and I saw they were rich magenta I was so excited- one of my favs. The iris, astilbe and pansies I planted in the fall and the rest were additions I picked up at the garden center I was working at.

June blooms

Those warm summer days are fast approaching! Winter lingered a little too long this spring and now the garden is in full spring mode- tulips and daffodils popping open everyday! Each morning I walk to garden with Georgia to see what's newly blooming and pushing up through the dirt and everyday I get really excited for the season ahead.

Last June I started to get into the weekly ritual of doing a design a week after watching an Instagram story from Katie Davis of Ponderosa and Thyme. I wanted to study the seasonal aspect of floral design in more depth, get to know the flowers in my own garden and from local growers more. It turned into a time to try to different shapes, techniques and flower combinations I ordinarily wouldn't use.

I'm certainly no professional photographer but I think documenting personal growth is so so important when you are designing with a perishable product. Looking back it's fun to see growth. I suppose this blog is as much for me to document my garden journey and design growth as it is to encourage you to garden and bring nature indoors to enjoy.

Pride Week Bouquet The poppies I got from a local greenhouse had settled into their new spot in my garden and were clearly loving their new home. The iris bulbs and bellflowers I planted in the fall were showing off their best blues and the peony bushes with heavy with big magenta fluffy bloom. It happened to be Pride Week when all these lovelies were in full bloom. I couldn't help but smile at the vibrant rainbow of colors when I made this hand held bouquet- what perfect timing for all of June's best and boldest.
